Now Available in Rotterdam: CHNO Testing (ASTM D5291)!
We’re excited to announce that Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, & Oxygen (CHNO) testing is now available at our Rotterdam, Netherlands laboratory!
Using ASTM D5291, we determine the elemental composition of petroleum products and lubricants, including crude oils, fuel oils, additives, lubricants, and residues.
Detection Ranges:
- Carbon: 75–87%
- Hydrogen: 9–16%
- Nitrogen: 0.1–2%
- Oxygen: By difference or separate determination, depending on protocol)
Why It Matters:
- Assess feedstock quality and refining potential
- Determine nitrogen-containing additives
- Evaluate hydrogen-to-carbon ratio for combustion characteristics and fuel performance
- Support quality control in refining
